COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Four current and former Tennessee swimmers earned a spot on the 2021-22 U.S. National Team roster ahead of a loaded competitive season, announced USA Swimming. UT is represented by Erika Brown, David Heron, Meghan Small and Joey Tepper.
Â
A two-time Olympic medalist and former Lady Vol All-American, Brown will compete in the 100 freestyle during her third stint with the national team. The two-time SEC Female Swimmer of the Year became the sixth Vol or Lady Vol swimmer to win two medals during a single Olympic Games, bringing home the silver in the 400 medley relay and the bronze in the 400 freestyle relay at Tokyo 2020. Brown is currently competing in the International Swimming League for the first-place Cali Condors.
Â
A seasoned veteran on the U.S. National Team, Heron has been a member of the squad eight times thanks to three U.S. Open Water titles. The upcoming Open Water World Championships will mark the third time in a row he's competed in the event. Tepper is the only active Vol on the national team, heading into his sophomore campaign. He will also be competing in the 10k during the championships.
Â
In her fifth stint with the national team, Small will swim the 200 individual medley. As the program record holder, she won three gold medals in the event at the SEC Championships. She earned 18 All-America certificates and was part of the Lady Vol's 200 medley relay team that won the 2019 NCAA Championships title.
