Doubles Start Strong for Lady Vols in Furman Open

FURMAN, S.C. – Playing seven matches between the two doubles pairings, the Tennessee women's tennis team finished off a successful first day of the Furman Open.
Callie Creath and Elza Tomase made it to the semifinals of the main draw, winning 6-2 over Lucie Petruzelova and Madeline Brown of Charlotte in the first round. The quarterfinal matchup against Maggie Pate and Ellie Schoppe of Furman was a battle with the Lady Vols securing a 7-6(4) victory. Moving up to the semifinals, Creath and Tomase faced another Furman pair, Julia Adams and Madison Dillon, but came up short, 1-6, in the main draw.
Kylie Duckworth and Olivia Symons constituted the second doubles pairing of the day. The senior/freshman pairing fell in their first match against Wofford, 7-6(4). The Lady Vols put together a 6-1 decision over Jessica Dawson and Katie Ferguson of Furman in the first match of the consolation bracket, then again in the semifinals against Rose Seccia and Yahli Noy.
In the consolation finals, Duckworth and Symons kept their momentum going, beating Lindsay Tulenko and Chloe Narboni of South Carolina, 6-2.
The Lady Vols will be back in action tomorrow morning, with the first singles matchup scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Results for the day and the first scheduled matchup of tomorrow can be found below.
