Tennessee Opens with Exhibition Win Over Appalachian State

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee volleyball opened its 2021 campaign with an exhibition win over Appalachian State Friday at Thompson-Boling Arena.
The Lady Vols won the match in straight-sets as head coach Eve Rackham Watt rolled out different lineups, showcasing Tennessee's depth.
Five newcomers saw action in the match as Paola Laborda, Breana Runnels, Ashllyn King, Nicole Shanahan and Klaudia Pawlik played on the Thompson-Boling Arena floor for the first time.

On opening up with an exhibition against Appalachian State…
"I think it's a good way to start. The best thing about today is that we got an opportunity to see a bunch of different lineups and different players on the floor. We got some experience for some players and we got to rest some players. I was happy about that. I certainly think you can look at the numbers and conclude that we've got a number of options and so the challenge will be, you know, figuring out how to best utilize what we have."

Tennessee plays its annual Orange & White scrimmage Saturday inside Thompson-Boling Arena with first serve slated for 12:30 p.m. ET.
UT opens up the regular season Friday at home against Texas Tech, beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
