Summer Ball Update #3: 18 Vols Wrap Up Summer Play

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Summer league baseball drew to a close this week as 18 Tennessee baseball players concluded play on their respective summer-league rosters.

The third and final summer ball update of the year can be found below.

USA Collegiate National Team
OF Drew Gilbert – USA Collegiate National Team
Season Stats: 11 GP, .294 AVG, 4 R, 10 H, 1 2B, 1 3B, 3 RBI, 0 BB, 7 K, .382 SLG, .314 OBP

Along with a batting average of .294 and a slugging percentage of .382 in 11 appearances for the USA Collegiate National Team this summer, Gilbert recorded four runs on 10 hits and RBIs for the Stripes this season.

RHP Blade Tidwell – USA Collegiate National Team
Season Stats: 3 App, 1-1, 0 SV, 7.71 ERA, 7.0 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 6 H, 4 BB, 9 K, 1.43 WHIP

In three appearances on the mound thus far for the USA Collegiate National Team, Tidwell struck out nine batters in 7.0 innings pitched this summer.

Cape Cod League
OF Jordan Beck – Harwich Mariners
Season Stats: 29 GP, .258 AVG, 2 HR, 5 2B, 1 3B, 11 R, 25 H, 10 RBI, 16 BB, .400 SLG, .377 OBP

In 29 games of action with the Harwich Mariners, Beck tallied 25 hits and a pair of home runs, with a batting average of .258. He owned a slugging percentage of .400 this summer and was walked 16 times.

California Collegiate League
OF Kyle Booker – Orange County Riptide
Season Stats: 12 GP, .340 AVG, 10 R, 18 H, 4 2B, 4 RBI, 5 BB, 16 K, .415 SLG, .400 OBP

With 12 total appearances for the Orange County Riptide this summer, Booker accumulated 18 hits, four RBIs and a batting average of .340. Booker has seven games of multiple hits and totaled seven hits in the span of three games (July 8-10).

RHP Christian Delashmit – Santa Barbara Foresters
Season Stats: 6 App, 2-1, 0 SV, 2.84 ERA, 25.1 IP, 10 R, 8 ER, 17 H, 16 BB, 31 K, 1.30 WHIP

Delashmit earned wins in two of his last four appearances with the Santa Barbara Foresters this summer, striking out a total of 25 batters during those four appearances.

C Charlie Taylor – Orange County Riptide
Season Stats: 11 GP, .256 AVG, 8 R, 11 H, 7 RBI, 9 BB, 17 K, 3 SB, .302 SLG, .396 OBP

Taylor appeared in 11 games for the Orange County Riptide this summer, scoring eight runs on 11 hits in those contests. He recorded a trio of multi-hit games and seven RBIs, along with three stolen bases.

LHP Kirby Connell – Forest City Owls
Season Stats: 1 App, 0-0, 0 SV, 0.00 ERA, 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K, 0.00 WHIP

Connell struck out one batter in his lone inning pitched for the Forest City Owls this summer.

LHP Shawn Scott – Forest City Owls
Season Stats: 9 App, 2-2, 0 SV, 9.64 ERA, 28 IP, 32 R, 30 ER, 24 H, 35 BB, 35 K, 2.11 WHIP

Scott struck out 35 batters this summer in 28 innings of work. He held a record of 2-2 with nine total appearances for the Owls.

SS/1B Logan Steenstra – Peninsula Pirates
Season Stats: 19 GP, .266 AVG, 13 R, 17 H, 0 HR, 2 2B, 13 RBI, 8 BB, 18 K, .297 SLG, .365 OBP

Steenstra batted .266 this summer for the Charlotte Mustangs, with 17 hits, 13 total runs and 13 RBIs in 19 appearances. He also owned an on-base percentage of .365 this summer.

Southern Collegiate Baseball League
RF/1B Jared Dickey – Charlotte Mustangs
Season Stats: 30 GP, .406 AVG, 37 R, 43 H, 2 HR, 7 2B, 2 3B, 16 RBI, 16 BB, 7 K, .566 SLG, .508 OBP

Dickey batted .383 this summer for the Charlotte Mustangs, with 43 hits, two home runs, 37 total runs and 16 RBIs through 30 appearances.

RHP Hollis Fanning – Charlotte Mustangs
Season Stats: 12 App, 6-2, 4 CG, 2 SV, 3.99 ERA, 56.1 IP, 29 R, 25 ER, 49 H, 9 BB, 37 K, 1.03 WHIP

Claiming a team-leading six wins with four complete games and two saves for the Mustangs this summer, Fanning struck out 37 batters in 56.1 innings of work from the mound.

SS/3B Austen Jaslove – Charlotte Mustangs
Season Stats: 27 GP, .340 AVG, 24 R, 34 H, 2 HR, 4 2B, 1 3B, 17 RBI, 5 BB, 6 SB, 22 K, .460 SLG, .387 OBP

In 27 appearances for the Charlotte Mustangs this summer, Jaslove was second on the team with 34 hits and scored 24 runs, while also totaling 17 RBIs and six stolen bases.

Prospect League
IF Trey Lipscomb – Johnstown Mill Rats
Season Stats: 21 GP, .356 AVG, 26 R, 32 H, 3 HR, 4 2B, 31 RBI, 10 BB, 5 K, 13 SB, .522 SLG, .413 OBP

Lipscomb made 21 appearances for the Johnstown Mill Rats this summer, hitting at a .356 clip with 32 hits, 26 runs and 31 RBIs. He stole 13 bases and hit three home runs during his summer stint with the Mill Rats.

LHP Drew Patterson – Alton River Dragons
Season Stats: 21 App, 2-4, 3 SV, 4.15 ERA, 39.0 IP, 25 R, 18 ER, 48 H, 6 BB, 40 K, 1.38 WHIP

Patterson made 21 appearances for the Alton River Dragons this summer, tallying 39.0 innings pitched. He recorded 40 strikeouts and walked just six batters.

OF Christian Scott – Johnstown Mill Rats
Season Stats: 22 GP, .313 AVG, 28 R, 25 H, 2 HR, 6 2B, 13 RBI, 21 BB, 27 K, 17 SB, .513 SLG, .476 OBP

Scott batted .313 for the summer with the Johnstown Mill Rats, playing in 22 games. Scott ranked third on the team in on-base percentage (.476) and seventh in slugging percentage (.513).

LHP Jake Fitzgibbons & INF Cortland Lawson – Hays Larks

The Hays Larks finished the summer first in the Rocky Mountain Baseball League standings with a 16-4 record, but stats were unavailable for Fitzgibbons and Lawson.

Sunbelt Baseball League
LHP Zander Sechrist – Gainesville Braves
Season Stats: 4 App, 1-1, 0 SV, 3.00 ERA, 18.0 IP, 7 R, 6 ER, 11 H, 9 BB, 19 K, 1.11 WHIP

Sechrist logged 19 strikeouts this summer for the Gainesville Braves, starting in each of his four appearances. He pitched 18.0 innings and posted a 3.00 ERA.
