KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee rowing head coach Lisa Glenn announced Thursday the hiring of assistant coach David Hall ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
Â
"I'm pleased to welcome David onto the coaching team at Tennessee," said Glenn. "His background in terms of leadership, familiarity with Junior Rowing and development of athletes into rowers will serve him well as he leads the talent transfer program toward a more impactful entity within our team."
Â
Boasting 10 years of experience coaching at the junior ranks, Hall joins the Tennessee rowing staff following a one-year stint as the Director of Rowing for Chattanooga Rowing in 2020-21. While there, he oversaw all operations for the rowing center and coached athletes of all ages. Prior to that, he served as the head coach at Girls Preparatory School for three years (2017-20) preceded by three months as an assistant coach (2017). During his time there, he coached the squad to three top-6 finishes at the SRAA National Championships. Â
Â
In 2015-16, Hall held roles with Nashville Rowing (2015-16) and served with the U.S. Rowing Men's Junior National Team (2015). Prior to that, he spent four years as the high school rowing coach for Chattanooga Junior Rowing, where he coached the program to three national championships in the women's lightweight 4+ in 2012 and 2013, and the men's 2- in 2014.
Â
"I'm very excited to be on Rocky Top and coaching with the Lady Vols," said Hall. "Given my background, I'm looking forward to working with our rowers and talent transfers. I've developed rowers in high school and helped in their transition to the next level. Now, I get to coach them as they improve their skill in college."
Â
A native of Chattanooga, Tenn., Hall graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science. He attended high school at Grace Baptist Academy.
Â
Additionally, the Lady Vols added Madeleine Horridge as a graduate assistant. The Brisbane, Australia, native rowed at Syracuse (2016-21), where she made three NCAA Championship appearances with the Orange.
Â
As a graduate student in 2021, Horridge competed with Syracuse's varsity eight crew, finishing 12th at the NCAA Championships and helping the Orange to a 10th-place overall finish at the event, the highest mark in program history. During the season, Syracuse also achieved its highest ranking in program history at No. 8 in the country.
Â
During the 2017-18 campaign, Horridge was a member of the second varsity eight boat that was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Year. Her boat took home first place at the ACC Championship and finished 11th at the NCAA Championships. As a junior in 2018-19, she competed in three regattas, highlighted by a 13th-place finish at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.
Â
While also competing, Horridge served as part of the Dome Changeover Crew for Syracuse as a senior. The position facilitated set up and break down of gameday materials at the Carrier Dome, home of the SU football, basketball and lacrosse teams.
Â
Horridge double majored, earning bachelor's degrees in psychology and sociology in 2020. With the opportunity to return to school for another year, she received a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Intercollegiate Athletics Advising and Support in 2021.
