KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee football seniors Paxton Brooks, K'Rojhn Calbert and Alontae Taylor have returned home from their 12-day cultural exchange trip to Belize with the VOLeaders Academy. This week's episode of "The Slice," Tennessee football's official podcast, features interviews and commentary from all three players throughout the Caribbean expedition.
"The Slice" is available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify (search The Slice). VFL Films' Kasey Funderburg conducts the in-depth interview, while Isaac Fowler produces the episode.
Brooks, Calbert and Taylor spent 12 days in Belize with 34 other student-athletes representing each of Tennessee's varsity sports. The group took part in several sporting activities with Belizean youth and assisted with service projects alongside Hearts of Christ Children's Ministry.
"It was really cool to be able to make this trip as a group, with these people that you've built this bond and connection with before coming out to San Pedro," Brooks said. "I think it also serves as a great time for reflection. We wind down our trip, and you really reflect on the last week that you spent serving the people of Belize and each other. It's also a great time to reflect on the connections that you've built with the group and how you've changed as a person—your life, yourself, your personality, whatever it may be."
The VOLeaders Academy—a dynamic partnership between UT's Division of Student Life; the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences; and the Department of Athletics — was developed to cultivate positive student-athlete leaders through sport to create positive social change.
By using their platform in sport, student-athletes admitted into the VOLeaders Academy learn how to be a positive force for their team, campus, and local and global communities. The program aims to inspire student-athletes to find ways to use their influence and passion for sport to enact change that transcends their athletic success.
