Lady Vols Notch 17th-Place Finish At NCAAs

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee capped off a successful 2020-21 campaign with a 17th-place team finish at the 2021 NCAA Rowing Championships on Sunday at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla.Â
The Lady Vols placed two boats in the C Finals and one in the D Final, amassing 36 team points. Texas was crowned the Division I NCAA Champion with 126 team points.Â
Tennessee got its best showing from the 2V8 group that claimed fourth in the C Final with a time of 6:48.972 to finish 16th in the country. It was a tight race with Duke taking first at 6:43.416, Princeton in second at 6:45.472, and Washington State in third at 6:46.502. Alabama and Navy came in fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 6:51.030 and 7:08.572.
UT's 1V8 finished fifth in the C Final with a time of 6:38.956, earning 17th place overall. SMU paced the group with a time of 6:31.478, and Wisconsin and Washington State were close behind at 6:33.822 and 6:35.798, respectively. Tennessee battled hard with fourth-place Duke but couldn't quite edge out the Blue Devils who crossed the line a little more than a second ahead of the Big Orange at 6:37.250. Navy came in sixth with a time of 6:44.316.
Tennessee's 1V4 took a commanding win in the D Final, posting a time of 7:36.939 to finish nearly 13 seconds ahead of second-place Northeastern (7:49.837) and earn 19th place overall. Rhode Island came in third at 7:52.611, and Marist was fourth at 8:02.169.
This marks the program's ninth overall and fifth full-team appearance at the NCAA Championships. Its last NCAA appearance came in 2010 when the team finished 16th.Â
