May 25, 2021 | Soccer
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Two-time University of Tennessee graduate Erin Gilroy has been named to the 2020-21 SEC Soccer Community Service Team, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. The Community Service Team looks to highlight athletes from each respective institution who give back to their community in superior service efforts.
Â
A member of the Tennessee soccer program since 2016, Gilroy logged more than 100 hours of community service during her time on Rocky Top. She has volunteered her time with several local organizations, including Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries (KARM), Big Brothers Big Sisters, Love Kitchen and East Tennessee Children's Hospital. Gilroy's extensive list of service projects also includes working with the 2nd & 7 Foundation, Read Across America, Read to Lead and Virtual Reading—reading books to local elementary school students. She also served as a mentor for local youth through VolsHELP.
Â
Gilroy served as co-chair of the Tennessee Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during the 2020-21 academic year and has twice represented UT at the annual SEC SAAC meetings. She was a member of the 2019-20 VOLeaders Academy, an organization developed to cultivate positive student-athlete leaders through sport to create positive social change.
Â
The Bellmore, New York, native stood out for the Big Orange on the pitch as a two-time All-SEC honoree. She rounded out her five-year career in the fall of 2020, totaling 47 caps, 35 starts, nine goals, 11 assists and 29 points.
Â
Gilroy completed her bachelor's degree in supply chain management in December of 2019 and recently finished her master's in Sport Management earlier this month. Upon receiving her graduate degree, Gilroy was presented with the university's bronze service medallion.
