UT To Make Program's Ninth NCAA Championship Appearance
May 18, 2021 | Rowing
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Fresh off a top-three finish at the Big 12 Championship in Austin, Texas, the 14th-ranked Lady Vols have earned an at-large bid in the 2021 NCAA Rowing Championships as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday, May 18.Â
The championships for all three NCAA divisions will be held on May 28-30 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla.
Â
Tennessee will be making its ninth overall and fifth full-team appearance at the NCAA Championships. It will mark the Lady Vols' first NCAA appearance since 2010 when the team finished 16th. Three years earlier, the Big Orange managed a program-best ninth-place finish while hosting the national championships at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
"Seeing the team's reaction to their selection is one of the sweeter moments I've experienced," said Tennessee Head Coach Lisa Glenn. "Knowing the work they and the staff have put into our daily efforts makes it even better. I'm very happy for everyone who has worked so hard with and for us this year, and we are honored to train and get better for another two weeks." Â
UT has seen several members of the championship field already this year, having raced against Big 12 rivals Texas and Alabama, as well as Southern Methodist, Virginia, Wisconsin, Michigan, Syracuse and Duke. Â
