KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 14 Tennessee is set to compete at the Big 12 Championship on Saturday in Austin, Texas. The event, originally slated for Sunday, has been rescheduled due to predicted inclement weather.
Racing will begin with the 1V8s at 9:15 a.m. ET/8:15 a.m. CT and conclude with the 2V4s at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT.
The winner of the finals-only championship event will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Rowing Championship which takes place May 28-30 in Sarasota, Fla. In addition to Tennessee, the Big 12 Championship will feature No. 2 Texas, No. 13 Alabama, Oklahoma, Kansas, Kansas State and West Virginia.
The seven teams will compete in a finals-only 2000m sprint race. Three events will be scored to determine the automatic qualifier from the Big 12 Conference. The most points will be awarded for the results in the 1V8+ followed by the 2V8+ and the 1V4+.Â
The University of Texas was scheduled to host the 2020 Big 12 Championship, though that event was canceled due to the global COVID-19 crisis. Prior to that, Tennessee hosted the Big 12 Championship on Melton Hill Lake for five straight seasons after joining the conference in 2015.
