Lady Vols in Contention Following Round One of NCAA Regionals

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The Tennessee women's golf team is in contention to advance to the NCAA Championship following the opening round of NCAA Regionals action on Monday.
The Lady Vols are just three strokes off the sixth-place cut line with two rounds to go.
"We got off to a great start and played the back nine well," head coach Judi Pavon said. "Tomorrow we need to make a few more birdie putts and clean up some short misses. All in all, we played well and are in good shape to move up with a solid day tomorrow."
Junior Mikayla Bardwell led Tennessee through the opening 18 holes on Monday, recording her ninth round of par or better this season while shooting even-par (72) in the first round. She stands tied for 11th after day one in Simpsonville.
Micheala Williams-Luck had a solid showing during Monday's opening round, as she shot +2 (74). She made par or better on 16 holes in round one and is tied for 25th place with two rounds remaining.
In the first NCAA Regionals action of her career, freshman Vanessa Gilly shot +3 (75) on Monday and is currently tied for 32nd place.
Nicole Whiston, a sophomore, made her NCAA postseason debut on Monday and rounded out Tennessee's scoring lineup in the opening round by shooting 6-over, 78. She is tied for 71st place.
Freshman Kayla Holden culminated Tennessee's trio of Lady Vols to make their NCAA postseason debuts on Monday. She is tied for 87th after going +8 (80) in the first round.
Play is set to resume Tuesday with round two action beginning at 8:00 a.m. ET.
