Vols, Lewis Lead After Two Rounds in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Redshirt sophomore Bryce Lewis has the individual lead while Tennessee is tied for the team lead at The Collegiate Invitational at the Country Club of Birmingham.
At 9-under through two rounds, Lewis has a seven-stroke lead on the 81-man field heading into Wednesday's final round. Lewis shot 6-under 65 for the day on Tuesday, carding seven birdies.
As a team, the Vols shot 1-over during round two and are 3-over 571 overall through two rounds, tied with Clemson atop the team leaderboard, five strokes ahead of the next closest team.
"Great round of golf from Bryce today to give us a great opportunity tomorrow as a team," Tennessee head coach Brennan Webb said. "The course is a championship test that rewards great shots and Bryce hit a lot of them today.
"Looking forward to a great day tomorrow and watching our guys compete."
Competing as an individual, Tyler Johnson is the second-highest Vol on the leaderboard entering the final round. At even par through two rounds, Johnson is tied for sixth place and seeking just his third top-five finish as a Vol.
For the second consecutive day, Hunter Wolcott gave Tennessee its second-best round of players in the lineup. Wolcott shot 2-over on Tuesday to bring his two-round total to 2-over. The Burns, Tennessee, native is tied for 14th place.
Carding a 2-over 73 for the second day in a row, Brayden Garrison is tied for 26th place heading into the final round. Garrison is currently on pace for his highest finish of the spring.
Tennessee's final counting round came from Spencer Cross, who shot 3-over 74 for the second straight day. Cross is tied for 38th place entering the tournament's final round.
Rhys Nevin is 9-over and tied for 58th place entering Wednesday's final round after shooting 5-over 76 during round two.
