April 05, 2021 | Men's Golf
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The 19th-ranked Tennessee men's golf team is tied for second place through one round at The Collegiate Invitational at the Country Club of Birmingham.
The Vols shot 2-over 286 as a team on Monday, trailing only North Florida who sits at 1-under through the first 18 holes. Only 10 players in the 81-man field and one team are under par following Monday's first round.
Bryce Lewis led the Vols during round one and is tied for second overall after carding a 3-under. He is just two strokes out of the lead. Lewis is coming off of a 22nd-place finish last time out at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship—his highest finish of the spring.
Just outside the top 10 is Hunter Wolcott, tied for 11th place after shooting even par during round one. That boosts Wolcott's season-long total of rounds par or better to a team lead-tying 13.
Tied with Wolcott in 11th and competing as an individual, Tyler Johnson also shot even par during round one.
Back in the lineup for the second time this spring, Brayden Garrison is tied for 29th after shooting 2-over during the first round of play.
Tennessee's final counting round came from Spencer Cross, who has been the Vols' top finisher in three tournaments so far this spring. Cross shot 3-over and is tied for 38th place.
