Monday Tabbed SEC Freshman of the Year, Walton Earns All-SEC Honors for Big Orange

Following a stellar dual match season that was capped by an SEC Tournament crown freshman Johannus Monday and senior Adam Walton represented the third-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team by taking home All-SEC honors the conference announced Friday morning.
Monday took home a trio of honors after being named to both the All-SEC First Team and Freshman Team, while also earning the league's Freshman of the Year Award.
Joining Monday on the All-SEC First Team is Walton, who is appearing on the conference's First Team for the second time in his career after having done so in 2019 as well.
Monday did so, following a stellar first campaign on Rocky Top, that saw the Hull, England native earn a 31-6 singles record, a mark of 20-4 in dual play and a near flawless ledger of 11-1 in SEC action. Monday also earned victories over 13 ranked foes in singles play.
Last week at the SEC Tournament, Monday's victories over South Carolina's Connor Thomson and Florida's Sam Riffice helped propel UT to its first conference crown since 2010. He is also the Vols first Freshman of the Year Award winner since Rhyne Williams in 2010.
Walton was a rock at the top of the Vol lineup all season, posting a 16-10 record in singles play and is just eight singles triumphs away from becoming the 11th Vol to reach 100 career singles victories.
In doubles, Walton and partner Pat Harper have been a mainstay in the top-5 of the ITA rankings, currently holding the fourth position and a 22-7 overall record as a pair this year.
At last week's SEC Tournament, the Australian duo picked up crucial wins over South Carolina's Daniel Rodrigues and Thomson and Florida's Johannes Ingildsen and Will Grant to help UT clinch both doubles points' en route to the 2021 title.
This just the second time since 2014 the Vols have placed multiple student athletes on the All-SEC First Team, with both instances coming during the tenure of current head coach Chris Woodruff.
Monday, Walton and the top-ranked Vols will learn their fate for the 2021 NCAA Tournament during Monday night's selection show at 6:30 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
