Kuczer, Mertena Named to All-SEC Team

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Juniors Daria Kuczer and Rebeka Mertena have been named to the women's tennis second team All-SEC. the conference announced on Thursday.
"We are proud of the way our entire team represented themselves and the University of Tennessee this SEC season," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "Credit to the SEC for completing this season in a safe environment and giving our student-athletes the opportunity to do what they love.
"Daria was outstanding in her ability to consistently perform at a high level and is deserving of her selection."
Kuczer, a Szczecin, Poland native, has been impressive in her debut season on Rocky Top. The transfer by way of Pepperdine has accrued an impressive 19-2 record in dual-match play this season and is 10-1 against conference opponents including an astounding 12-match winning streak against SEC opponents.
"Rebeka made great improvement during the season and that was highlighted by her performance at the SEC tournament where she competed against the best players in our conference and did very well," Ojeda said.
Hailing from Liepaja, Latvia, Mertena has been solid for the Lady Vols in the No. 1 singles position where she holds a 4-2 record. The 2019 SEC All-Freshman Team selection is 11-6 in dual-match play this season and has totaled 15 solo wins on the year.
