Lady Vols Selected to 28th Consecutive NCAA Regional
April 28, 2021 | Women's Golf
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee women's golf team was selected to its 28th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance on Wednesday.
After being selected to the Louisville Regional, the Lady Vols are one of nine women's golf programs to make all 28 NCAA Regionals, which began in the spring of 1993.
"We are excited to be heading back into NCAA play," head coach Judi Pavon said. "It's been a great effort by the University and SEC to allow us to compete all season and we are happy to be playing for a chance at the NCAA Championship. Missing out on the postseason last year due to COVID-19 was tough and we worked hard all year to have this opportunity."
Tennessee is the No. 10 seed in the Louisville Region and will compete from May 10-12. The program has advanced to the NCAA Championship in four of the past five years that the tournament has been held, with no tournament being played in 2020 due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
The four regional championships are hosted by Louisville, Ohio State, LSU and Stanford, with each site holding 18 teams and six individuals apiece.
The top six teams and the top three individuals not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship at Greyhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, from May 20-26.
The Lady Vols are coming off a strong performance at the SEC Championship, where they logged a three-day score of 11-under.
Graduate student Micheala Williams-Luck leads Tennessee in NCAA postseason experience, ahead of her fourth trip to Regionals.
At the Auburn Regional in 2019, Williams-Luck used two under par rounds to card a three-day score of 1-over and finish in a tie for 13th place.
As a sophomore in 2018, she recorded a seventh place finish to advance to the NCAA Championship as an individual.
This season, junior Mikayla Bardwell owns a team-low average of 73.93.
