Listen: "The Slice" Podcast Featuring Theo Jackson
April 26, 2021 | Football
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Senior defensive back and Nashville native Theo Jackson joins this week's episode of "The Slice," Tennessee football's official podcast.
"The Slice" is available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify (search The Slice). VFL Films' Kasey Funderburg conducts the in-depth interview, while VFL's Isaac Fowler produces the episode.
Jackson and the Volunteers just wrapped up five weeks of spring practice under new head coach Josh Heupel. A prominent member of Tennessee's leadership group, Jackson enters his fifth season this fall after an outstanding prep career in Nashville. Â
"When I was 11 or 12, that was when I started taking football seriously and getting into youth league teams," Jackson said. "We all started playing together. My dad was one of the coaches, and my mom was always the biggest supporter. We formed a bond with each other. Throughout my life, they have always been there. I appreciate them so much because of it. It's a great feeling having them by my side as I play the game that I love." Â
Jackson has totaled 112 career tackles and two picks, while playing 44 career games in Knoxville. He was recruited by secondary coach Willie Martinez, who returned to Rocky Top this spring.
"He hasn't changed," Jackson said. "He's the same guy then as he is now. I have nothing but love and respect for him. The way he coaches us, he tells us he is going to coach us like we are his sons. He's not going to sugarcoat anything, but if we are doing good, he is going to tell us that."
