Lady Vols Conclude SEC Championship Tied for Ninth

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Tennessee women's golf team concluded the SEC Championship on Friday in a tie for ninth place.
The Lady Vols had four rounds of par or better on Friday, shooting 6-under in the final round for a three-day team score of -11 (853) that tied the seventh-best team score after 54 holes in Lady Vol program history.
"We had a really strong tournament even though we didn't make match play," head coach Judi Pavon said. "It was exciting to see our players step up, compete so well and break par in all three rounds. Micheala and Vanessa both had great performances and Kayla and Mikayla stepped up as well with their best scoring since earlier in the spring.
"I'm looking forward to taking this momentum into regionals in a few weeks."
Micheala Williams-Luck shot 2-under, 70, on Friday, with five birdies in the final round. She finished tied for 13th place and her three-day score of -7 (209) is tied for the 11th-best score after 54 holes in program history.
After scoring under par in each of the three SEC Championship rounds, the graduate student now holds sole possession of second place on Tennessee's all-time list of most rounds of par or better in a career, with 49.
In her first SEC Championship, freshman Vanessa Gilly finished in a tie for 17th with a three-day score of -6 (210). She made six birdies on day three to card a score of 3-under, 69.
Mikayla Bardwell wrapped up the trip to Birmingham tied for 41st with a total score of +1 (217). She used six birdies to shoot 1-under, 71, on Friday.
Also making her first appearance at the SEC Championship was freshman Kayla Holden. An eagle on hole 14 highlighted her third round, in which she finished even par, 72. Overall, Holden recorded a three-day score of +2 (218) in Birmingham to finish tied for 45th.
Sophomore Nicole Whiston concluded her SEC Championship debut in a tie for 58th, with a final score of +8 (224). She made four birdies in the final round to card a score of +1 (73) on Friday.
Although narrowly missing out on match play, the Lady Vols built substantial momentum as they wait to hear their name called during the NCAA Championship selection show on April 28.
