Season-Low Round from Williams-Luck Leads Lady Vols Through Round Two of SEC Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Three rounds of par or better on Thursday, including a season-low round of 68 from Micheala Williams-Luck puts the Tennessee women's golf team in contention for match play entering the final round of stroke play at the SEC Championship.
The Lady Vols shot 3-under in the Thursday's second round, standing in a tie for ninth and just two strokes back of the cut line for match play.
"It's been really great to see Micheala step up this week and play well to lead the team," head coach Judi Pavon said. "She loves this tournament and having the opportunity to compete here again was one of the big reasons why she came back for her fifth year. Mikayla Bardwell also stepped up big today, along with Kayla Holden.
"Tomorrow's going to be a fun day. The shots can be made up in a single hole so we need to focus on hitting good shots and hitting greens."
Williams-Luck made five birdies in round two, finishing the round under par for a second consecutive day.
"Today's round was really solid," Williams-Luck said. "I only missed a couple of greens and gave myself a lot of birdie chances. I'm looking forward to making some more tomorrow."
With her performance on Thursday, Williams-Luck has tied the Lady Vol program record for the second-most rounds of par or better in a career, with 48. The graduate student is tied for 16th at 5-under, 139, after shooting -4 (68) in the second round.
Mikayla Bardwell recorded a score of 1-under, 71, on Thursday. She made five birdies on the day and despite shooting 3-over in the early stages of the round, she fought back to finish under par.
Freshman Kayla Holden also recorded an under par round, shooting even par, 72, on Thursday. Overall, she is currently 2-over, 146, and tied for 47th place.
Vanessa Gilly rounded out Tennessee's day two counting scores, going 2-over, 74, in the second round. She is tied for 22nd place at -3 (141) after two rounds.
Sophomore Nicole Whiston shot 5-over, 77, on Thursday and sits in a tie for 57th at +7 (151).
Match play will be on the line for the Lady Vols on Friday, with the first tee time of the third and final round of stroke play scheduled for 9:20 a.m. ET.
