March 23, 2021 | Swimming & Diving
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee men's swimming and diving team opens the 2021 Men's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The championships run Wednesday through Saturday and open up with the 800 freestyle relay at 6 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Thursday, Friday and Saturday will begin with preliminaries at 10 a.m., followed by the championship finals in the evening at 6 p.m. A full schedule is listed below.
The Vols are sending 13 men to NCAAs – nine swimmers and four divers. Tennessee's representatives include: Nolan Briggs, Micah Chambers, Jarel Dillard, Lyubomir Epitropov, Will Hallam, Bryden Hattie, Michael Houlie, Will Jackson, Kayky Mota, Keegan Richardson, Scott Scanlon, Seth Thompson-Bailey and Matthew Wade.
Epitorpov, Houlie and Mota are all seeded in the top-15 of their respective events – the 200 breaststroke, 100 breast and 100 butterfly.
At the SEC Championships last month, Epitropov won the SEC title in the 200 breast and broke the school record in the event for good measure.
Houlie joined Epitropov on the 200 breast medal stand as he took home bronze in the event at SECs. The Cape Town, South Africa, native also brought back a silver medal in the 100 breast. Houlie broke the program record in that event at SECs.
Houlie is the eighth seeded swimmer in the 100 breast, while Epitropov is seeded ninth in the 200 breast.
Mota placed sixth in the 100 fly at the SEC Championships and seventh in the 200 fly. Mota is the 14th seeded swimmer in the 100 fly.
On the boards, Hattie is qualified to compete on both 1-meter and 3-meter springboard and on platform as the freshman makes his NCAA Championships debut. Wade will compete in both springboard events, while Hallam competes on 3-meter and platform.
Richardson is making his first appearance at NCAAs and will compete for the Vols on platform.
Last season, the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships were canceled due to the Coronavirus global pandemic. The last time UT competed at NCAAs was in 2019, when it finished 11th.
The championships will be available to stream on ESPN3 and live stats and scoring will be available at this link, divemeets.com and the Meet Mobile app.
