Monday Named SEC Freshman of the Week...Again

For the seventh time in eight weeks, Tennessee men's tennis freshman Johannus Monday has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Monday garnered the award following two dominant singles wins in the Vols team victories over No. 39 Auburn and No. 28 Alabama.
Monday's victory on Friday over Auburn's Tim Dollman was a dominant 6-0, 6-2 victory that saw the Hull, England native claim the match's opening nine games. His win on court two evened the match score at 1-1 after UT narrowly dropped the doubles point.
On Sunday, Monday rolled past No. 89 Edson Ortiz, 6-2, 6-2 to put Tennessee up 3-1 and on the cusp of clinching match point. His win was also his 10th of the season over a ranked opponent and improved him to 7-0 in SEC play.
Monday is now 16-3 in dual matches and 25-5 overall in singles play in his freshman campaign on Rocky Top.
Monday and the fifth-ranked Vols return to action next weekend with a pair of SEC matches against Vanderbilt on March 26 and Kentucky on March 28 at home inside Barkesdale Stadium.
