KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Seniors Danielle Mahaffey and Natalie Hayward and junior Morgahn Fingall have garnered AVCA Southeast All-Region honors, the organization announced Tuesday.
Mahaffey was named AVCA Southeast All-Region after finishing the season with 183 kills, a .380 hitting percentage, and 139 blocks. The 6-1 middle blocker ranks second in the Southeastern Conference in blocks per set at 1.38 – a mark that also ranks 10th nationally.
Her 1.38 blocks per set is the sixth-best single-season average all-time in Tennessee history.
After putting up a career-high 1,162 assists this season, Hayward also picked up AVCA Southeast All-Region Honorable Mention. The Bothell, Washington, native averaged 10.66 assists per set – a mark that ranks fourth in the SEC and 31st in the nation.
Hayward's 1,162 assists in 2021 are 10th-most in a season during the rally-scoring era. The setter wrapped up her season with 105 kills, a team-leading 23 service aces, 296 digs and 81 blocks. She also notched 13 double-doubles.
Over on the right side, Fingall earned Southeast Honorable Mention after setting career-highs in kills (338), hitting percentage (.250), service aces (16), digs (187) and blocks (100). The Fairfax, Virginia, native averaged 3.22 kills per set in 2021, which ranked second on the team.
The AVCA awards for Mahaffey, Hayward and Fingall are the first coach's association honors for all three players. For UT, it is the fourth consecutive year the Lady Vols have had at least one player earn all-region status. It is the longest such streak for UT since a five-year run from 2008-12.
Tennessee's three honorees this season are the most in a single year since earning four honors in 2011.
