December 15, 2021 | Volleyball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee senior Danielle Mahaffey has been announced as earning AVCA All-America Honorable Mention honors, the American Volleyball Coaches Association revealed Wednesday.
Mahaffey was named All-America after finishing the season with 183 kills, a .380 hitting percentage, and a career-best 139 blocks. The middle blocker ranks second in the Southeastern Conference in blocks per set at 1.38 – a mark that also ranks ninth nationally.
Her 1.38 blocks per set is the sixth-best single-season average all-time in Tennessee history.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native posted 329 total blocks during her career – a mark that places her 10th in Tennessee history in the rally-scoring era. Mahaffey's 0.90 blocks per set career average ranks 15th all-time in Lady Vol history during the rally-scoring era.
"Danielle has trained in three different positions for us during her time as a Lady Vol and has always been a team-first player," head coach Eve Rackham Watt said. "For her to be recognized as an All-American just makes us so proud. She has worked diligently to become one of the best middle blockers in the country."
Along with her strong net-front presence, Mahaffey was an effective attacker during the 2021 campaign as she hit a career-high .380. That mark ranked fourth in the SEC this season and 35th nationally. The Lady Vol finished fourth on the team with her 183 kills.
Mahaffey is Tennessee's 20th All-America honoree in program history and the third player to earn All-America accolades under head coach Eve Rackham Watt. She is the first Lady Vol to garner All-America honors since Tessa Grubbs and Erica Treiber in 2018.
