Lady Vol Tennis Releases Spring 2022 Schedule
November 19, 2021 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE – The Tennessee women's tennis program unveiled its spring 2022 schedule on Friday. The Lady Vols' slate consists of 24 matches, the Tar Heel Invitational and a pair of ITA events. Eleven matches will be played on Rocky Top this spring, as Tennessee comes off an 11-0 season at home in 2021.
"There is value in competing very early in a season and having to put student-athletes in a situation where they are having to be mentally tough and battle through some adversity," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "Our goal this upcoming season is to contend for a championship, and in order to do so, you have to see where you are at. If we can see where we are early in the season, it gives us an opportunity before SEC play to prepare for the challenges that lie ahead."
UT will play its first two weekends of matches in North Carolina, as it opens at the Tar Heel Invitational on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, in Chapel Hill. The event is slated to run through Sunday, Jan. 9, with multiple matches played during the weekend. The Lady Volunteers return to the Tar Heel state two weekends later, playing at Charlotte on Jan. 21, then in Winston-Salem against Wake Forest on Jan. 23.
The road stretch continues to start the season as the Big Orange will be in Columbus, Ohio, for the ITA Kickoff event. The Lady Vols are slated to face LSU in the first round, with the winner taking on Ohio State or Oklahoma State in the final.
The team that finishes 2-0 will qualify for ITA Indoor Nationals, which is slated to take place Feb. 10-13 in Madison, Wisconsin. The program has made 14 appearances at the event.
Tennessee plays its home opener on Feb. 4 against NC State. It is the first time since 2014 the Lady Vols have not had a home match in the month of January.
After ITA Indoor Nationals, the Lady Vols open up a five-match homestand where they face Indiana on Feb. 19 and Bellarmine twice on Feb. 20.
Southeastern Conference action opens with Mississippi State on March 4, then Ole Miss on March 6, with both slated to be played in Knoxville. The Lady Vols also host Georgia, Texas A&M, LSU, Vanderbilt and Kentucky in their conference slate.
In road conference matches, Tennessee travels to South Carolina, Florida, Arkansas, Missouri, Auburn and Alabama.
This year's SEC Championship will be played in Gainesville, Florida, at the University of Florida from April 20-24. The NCAA Championship will commence on May 6th.
