Tennessee Claims Nine Victories on Day Three of Tennessee Fall Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Nine victories between singles and doubles highlighted day three of the Tennessee Fall Invitational for the Tennessee women's tennis team Saturday.

Tennessee began the morning by facing Illinois in six singles matches, before facing Wake Forest in four doubles matches as the afternoon sessions began. The Lady Vols concluded the day with five single matches against Kentucky. In all, UT competed in 15 matches with a 6-5 singles mark and a 3-1 record in doubles.

In early singles action, Tenika McGiffin won a tiebreak in the first set of her match against Kate Duong of Illinois to win in straight sets, 7-6(3), 6-3.

Daria Kuczer's three-set singles match lasted eight minutes shy of three hours, as she battled and earned a 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 win over Ashley Yeah (Illinois). Trailing 4-5 in set three, Kuczer got a necessary break to make it 5-5 and then held serve in the ensuing game to take a 6-5 advantage. Kuczer broke Yeah once more to win 7-5 in the deciding set.

Remaining singles courts between the Lady Vols and Fighting Illini saw Josie Frazier (Illinois) defeat Esther Adeshina, 6-3, 6-3, Kasia Treiber (Illinois) def. Eleonora Molinaro, 7-6, 1-6, 6-2, Kida Ferrari (Illinois) def. Callie Creath, 0-6, 7-5, 6-3 and Shivani Ingle (Illinois) def. Kylie Duckworth, 6-1, 6-2.

Prior to the Tennessee Fall Invitational, only one of this weekend's doubles pairings (McGiffin/Olivia Symons) for the Lady Vols had competed together. That hasn't impeded the success found by UT on the doubles courts, totaling a 10-3 this weekend and a 3-1 mark Saturday.

Tennessee breezed through its first three doubles matches of the day versus Wake Forest, with McGiffin/Symons handling Wake Forest's Samantha Martinelli/Casie Wooten, 6-4, Elza Tomase/Adeshina taking down the 38^th-ranked pair of Anna Campana and Carolyn Campana, 6-4 and Molinaro/Kuczer beating Brylin/Pesavento, 6-3.

UT's Duckworth and Creath fell in a battle with Wake Forest's Saby Nihalani and Maddie Lynch, 5-7.

The Lady Vols closed out day three of action this weekend in Goodfriend Tennis Center by taking four of five singles matches against Kentucky.

Kuczer took care of business in her match against Fiona Arrese, winning 6-1, 6-1 while Tomase earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Carla Girbau. Molinaro secured a three-set win over Florencia Urrutia, winning in a 7-6(4), 5-7, 6-4 decision. Creath prevailed over Lidia Gonzalez, 6-1, 7-5. Kentucky's Carlota Molina defeated UT's McGiffin in a tightly-contested match, 7-5, 6-7(5), 7-5.
