KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Preparing for its first tournament and only tournament as the host this fall, the Tennessee women's tennis team is back in action Thursday afternoon at Goodfriend Tennis Center. The Tennessee Fall Invitational will run Thursday through Sunday.
The five-team event is loaded with top-level competition. Competing this weekend are players from No. 9 Virginia, No. 18 Tennessee, No. 25 Kentucky, No. 29 Vanderbilt and No. 33 Wake Forest.
"I'm really excited to compete against some of the country's best teams this upcoming weekend," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "It will give us the opportunity to see exactly where we are at, as well as exploit areas that we need to focus on in the off-season. I love that 100 percent of our team is getting better every single day."
The Lady Vols are on short rest this week after playing a long, but incredibly successful, ITA Ohio Valley Regional a week ago. Coach Ojeda has stressed the growth of her unit throughout the fall season, and has seen the results of that. This weekend, she is looking to post a strong finish to the fall slate.
"I want to make sure we see growth in the specific areas which we are spending a lot of time on," Ojeda said. "Developing our mental toughness, learning how to manage our emotions in a way that allows us to focus at an elite level, as well as preparing to compete against our opponents' best. I want to make sure our team is ready at all times to compete at a consistently high level."
Action starts Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m., with weather slated to be in the area, action will occur inside at Goodfriend Tennis Center. In the event of good weather, play will be held inside of Barksdale Stadium.
