No. 20 Tennessee Falls to LSU in Three Sets

BATON ROUGE, La. – The 20th-ranked Lady Vols volleyball team fell on the road Sunday afternoon to LSU in three sets (20-25, 20-25, 23-25) at the Maravich Center.
Tennessee (16-4, 8-2 SEC) hit .228 in the match with 39 kills, two aces and four blocks. On the other side of the net, LSU (9-12, 5-7 SEC) hit .368 and put away 49 kills with five service aces and eight blocks.
Lily Felts and Morgahn Fingall led UT with nine kills apiece Sunday. Breana Runnels finished with eight kills, while Danielle Mahaffey and Natalie Hayward closed out with six and four kills, respectively.
UT's two service aces came from Fingall and Paola Laborda.
On the defensive side of the net, Felts and Madison Bryant tied for the team lead in digs with 11. Mahaffey posted three blocks on the day to lead the team.
LSU's Taylor Bannister and Kylie Deberg tallied double-digit kills as they led the Tigers with 15 and 12, respectively. Bannister also scored three of LSU's five aces, while Paige Flickinger notched the other two.
Anita Anwusi posted six kills and four blocks out of the middle as she led all players in blocks.
Tennessee hit .316 in the opening set but was out-hit by LSU with a .441 hitting percentage. The Tigers put down 16 kills, three service aces and a block as they won the first set, 25-20.
In the second, UT hit just .071 to LSU's .233 as the Tigers again scored 16 kills. LSU earned four of its eight blocks in the set, winning 25-20.
The final frame mirrored the first as the Lady Vols hit .381, but the Tigers again out-hit UT with a .483 hit percentage. With 17 kills, two aces and three blocks, LSU won the third set, 25-23.
