October 24, 2021 | Men's Golf
ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The 16th-ranked Tennessee men's golf team completed its fall schedule Sunday, finishing fourth in a loaded field at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate.
Â
The Vols shot a three-round total of 22-under, finishing ahead of four top-25 teams. Two Vols—Tyler Johnson and Spencer Cross—finished inside the top 20, while two more—Jake Hall and Bryce Lewis finished just outside the top-25.
Â
Johnson was Tennessee's highest finisher, coming in at eighth place in the 75-man field. It marks Johnson's second consecutive top-10 finish after he also finished eighth at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational. The redshirt senior shot a three-round total of 8-under—shooting all three rounds below par.
Â
In the entirety of his previous two seasons, Johnson had two total top-10 finishes and now has two in a row to open the 2021-22 season.
Â
Cross also turned in a second consecutive solid performance, shooting 4-under and finishing in 19th place—his sixth top-20 finish during this calendar year. Cross also tied with Johnson for the team lead in birdies for the weekend with 12.
Â
Hall and Lewis both tied for 26th place, each shooting three-round totals of 1-under and narrowly missing out on top-25 finishes. After shooting 1-over in round one, Lewis shot under par in rounds two and three. Hall also shot two rounds under par for the weekend.
Â
Hunter Wolcott rebounded from a 4-over score in round one to shoot below par in each of the final two rounds, carding a three-round total of 1-under. Wolcott finished in 29th place, shooting two counting rounds for the Vols.
Â
The Vols do not return to action for nearly four months, teeing off the spring in Puerto Rico in February. That month's Puerto Rico Classic is set to be the first of six spring regular season tournaments for Tennessee.
