MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After an off weekend, the Tennessee women's tennis team is back in action as it faces the ITA Ohio Valley Regional tournament hosted by Middle Tennessee State. Action is slated to begin Thursday morning, Oct. 21, with doubles, followed by singles.
"Our team has progressed in a variety of ways this fall," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "We are learning what it means to consistently train at a high level. It's easy to say but much harder to do. We are stringing together focused practices which allow us to maximize time on court."
The Ohio Valley Region is filled with talent like Kentucky, Indiana, Purdue, Louisville, Vanderbilt, MTSU, Memphis, Dayton and a plethora of other schools. The challenge of this weekend is one the Lady Vols and Ojeda are looking forward to.
"The upcoming two weeks of competition will be incredibly valuable to our young squad." Ojeda continued. "We will be able to measure our growth by competing against opponents we have faced before."
Competing for Tennessee on the singles side will be No. 55 Rebeka Mertena, Esther Adeshina, Daria Kuczer, Olivia Symons, Eleonora Molinaro, Elza Tomase and Callie Creath.
"This is our last weekend where we have an individual mindset," Ojeda finished. "Next weekend it will be about the team, that's what helps us focus on what lies ahead this upcoming spring."
On the doubles side, UT will have four pairings looking to capitalize on the fall test. No. 5 Esther Adeshina/Daria Kuczer, Rebeka Mertena/Elza Tomase, Tenika McGiffin/Olivia Symons, Callie Creath/Kylie Duckworth team up for the weekend.
