Lady Vols Open At #15 in AP Preseason Poll
October 19, 2021 | Women's Basketball
The Tennessee women's basketball team is ranked No. 15 in the Preseason Associated Press Poll that was released on Tuesday.
The Lady Vols are slated to play eight ranked teams, including the preseason top three of South Carolina, UConn and Stanford, as well as four others who are receiving votes.
This marks the first time the UT women have appeared in the preseason edition of the AP poll under third-year head coach Kellie Harper and the initial appearance for the program since starting at No. 11 prior to the 2018-19 campaign. The Lady Vols ended the 2020-21 season at No. 13 in the AP poll, marking Tennessee's first year-end placement since winding up 12th in 2017-18
Â
Tennessee is one of four SEC teams making the poll, with that number increasing to seven when including squads receiving votes.
Â
Harper welcomes back nine letterwinners and six returnees with starting experience from a squad that placed third in the SEC for the second straight season and advanced to the NCAA Second Round, finishing at 17-8 overall and 9-4 in league play. She added a graduate transfer who was the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and has brought in a freshman class rated No. 9 by ProspectsNation.com and No. 15 by espnW.
