October 18, 2021 | Volleyball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On Monday, the Southeastern Conference named Tennessee middle blocker Ava Bell as its SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Bell picked up the honor following UT's win over Georgia on Oct. 15 in Athens. The Lady Vols won the match in four sets as they improved to 15-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
A senior from Austin, Texas, Bell led UT in blocks Friday night as she posted 10 in the four-set victory. She also put down nine kills on a .529 hitting percentage and ended the night with a pair of digs.
Bell averaged 2.25 kills per set, 2.50 blocks per set and 3.50 points per set versus UGA.
This is her second SEC weekly honor of the year after being the SEC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 4. With Bell's honor, it is the fourth consecutive week the Lady Vols have had an honoree among the weekly awards.
It is UT's seventh conference honor of the season, the most since picking up seven awards in 2018. This season, the Lady Vols have earned the second-most SEC accolades in the league.
Tennessee returns to the court Oct. 23 and 24 as it travels to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for a two-match series against the Tigers.
