LADY VOLS RELEASE FALL SCHEDULE, OPEN NEW SEASON ON NATIONAL TV
September 01, 2020 | Women's Golf
Tennessee's Fall slate features its first regular season appearance on national TV.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee women's golf team will take part in three tournaments this Fall, headlined by an appearance on national television, with each event featuring all 14 SEC squads, Lady Vol head coach Judi Pavon announced Tuesday.
"I'm really excited that we're going to compete this Fall and want to thank our administration, the SEC and our medical staff for making it possible," coach Pavon said. "Playing three SEC Championship tournament fields this Fall will go a long way toward making our team better and helping us prepare for the spring and postseason in 2021."
The Big Orange open the year at the inaugural Blessings Collegiate Invitational, a new men's and women's collegiate golf championship that will take place at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Oct. 5-7.
The Golf Channel will deliver live tournament coverage spanning from 4:30-7:30 p.m. ET each day.
The event marks the first time UT has appeared in a nationally televised regular season tournament.
"We're excited to return to the Blessings Golf Club, the site of the 2019 NCAA Championship," Pavon said. "We didn't play well in that event, but I think our team has matured and improved since then, so I'm looking forward to seeing us play better on that course."
This will be the Orange & White's first time on the links since the coronavirus pandemic cut the 2019-20 season short.
"Our players have been competing a lot throughout the summer so they've been back in the swing of things, but as coaches we haven't been able to coach or recruit since March, so the return will be the biggest adjustment for us," coach Pavon continued.
Two weeks later, Tennessee will travel south to Starkville, Mississippi to take part in The Ally at Old Waverly Golf Course, Oct. 19-21. This will be the Lady Vols third trip to Starkvegas in four years.
UT closes its Fall campaign at the beginning of November with a third all-SEC tournament occurring Nov. 5-7. The location of this event is still to be determined.
The Lady Vols return graduate student Micheala Williams, the 2018 and 2020 Tennessee Amateur Champions in junior Mariah Smith and sophomore Mikayla Bardwell and freshman Nicole Whiston who earned 2020 second team All-SEC accolades and a spot on the conferences All-Freshman team.
