Women’s Tennis Adds Daria Kuczer to Roster

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee women's tennis team added Daria Kuczer to the 2020-21 roster, head coach Alison Ojeda announced on Thursday.
"Our team is very excited to add Daria Kuczer to our roster," Ojeda said. "As a junior, she was the No. 1 player in Poland in under-14's through 18's, she had a top-100 world junior ranking and has competed in the Aussie Open and the US Open. Daria has aspirations to be a professional tennis player and we are excited to help her get there. She brings a wealth of experience to our program, and Jarryd (Chaplin) and I are thrilled to coach her."
Kuczer, a native of Szczecin, Poland, comes to UT from Pepperdine with collegiate career records of 17-11 in singles and 24-13 in doubles. She earned All-WCC singles honorable mention and doubles second-team honors as a freshman.
As a junior player in Poland, Kuczer was ranked No. 1 in the 14U, 16U and 18U age groups, respectively. She also earned a Tennis Europe-high ranking of No. 63 and her highest ranking in Junior ITF was No. 86. Kuczer was the Polish national champion in 14U singles and mixed doubles in 2013, 16U singles in 2014, 18U singles and doubles in 2015 and 2016, women's adult singles and doubles in 2016 and 23U single sand doubles in 2017.
"Recruiting during the pandemic has been very different," Ojeda said. "Usually we can sit down with a prospect and get to know them in person while watching them interact with their peers. Zoom doesn't allow for quite the same interactions, but Daria's humor and positive personality shone through, as well as her seriousness and professionalism about her future. In addition, her brother David, as well as her former coaches at Pepperdine, really took the time to share stories about who Daria is, and we appreciate that transparency so much.
"I look forward to being able to meet Daria in person at last. This recruitment process, like so many other experiences during this time, has been a bit unprecedented. Our program is excited to welcome Daria to Rocky Top and are thrilled that she chose to become a Lady Vol."
Last season, Kuczer went 8-5 in singles and 9-7 in doubles before the season was cut short due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) global health crisis. In dual matches, she collected four doubles and three singles wins.
In 2019 as a freshman, Kuczer earned a 9-6 singles record and 15-6 doubles record. She was recognized twice as the WCC Doubles Team of the Week with her partner Ashley Lahey.
