Vols Win Twice On Sunday, Defeating No. 11 Ole Miss and Austin Peay

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 19th-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team won twice Sunday at Barksdale Tennis Stadium, defeating No. 11 Ole Miss, 4-3, before following up with a 4-0 win over Austin Peay.
Tennessee (14-2, 2-1 SEC) has now won five matches over ranked opponents this season with its defeat of Ole Miss and also earned its ninth shutout of the year following the victory over Austin Peay.
"We played tough today," head coach Chris Woodruff said. "I thought everyone played well and like I said the other day, with every win in this conference you savor it and they all require work and preparation. As the season goes on we'll just keeping doing it one day at a time."
Senior Luca Wiedenmann picked up two wins on Sunday and is now just one victory shy of breaking into the top 20 all-time in program history for singles wins. The Munich, Germany native currently has 83 career wins, tying him with Rhyne Williams for 21st in Tennessee history.

The Rebels (10-4, 1-2) jumped out early on the Vols, taking the doubles point with wins on courts one and three.
Court two featuring Mark Wallner and Pat Harper versus Jan Soren Hain and Simon Junk was the first to finish with Wallner/Harper continuing their hot streak as they took the victory, 6-1. The duo is now 4-0 together in the dual match season.
The 50th-ranked pairing of Giles Hussey and Andrew Rogers fell in a ranked matchup to No. 17 Tim Sandkaulen and Finn Reynolds on court one, 4-6 as Ole Miss knotted doubles at a court apiece. The Rebels won the point as Martim Prata and Adam Walton fell to Cotter Wilson and Nikola Slavic at No. 3, 3-6.
Walton, the 31st-ranked singles player nationally, responded for UT in singles as he quickly dispatched No. 68 Sandkaulen 6-2, 6-3 on court one. The Home Hill, Australia native earned his fifth-ranked win of the year and improves to 12-1 with the victory.
Prata closed out his match against Hain on court two shortly after, winning 6-2, 6-3 and giving the Vols a 2-1 lead in the match. Over at No. 4, Rogers fell in two sets to Slavic 3-6, 2-6 as Ole Miss tied the score at 2-2.
Lukas Engelhardt gave the Rebels the match lead as he won out over Harper on court six, 6-4, 6-3.
Tennessee fought on with Hussy leveling the match once again as he defeated Junk at the No. 5 position, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. Wiedenmann played the role of Mr. Clincher, taking a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory over Reynolds on court three and sealing the Vols' 4-3 win over Ole Miss.

In the second match of the day, UT jumped out early on the Governors as it claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and three.
Prata and Walton finished first, recording a 6-1 win over Thiago Nogueira and Hunter Sanders on court three. Hussey and Rogers clinched the point with a victory against Julius Gold and Anton Damberg on court one, 6-2.
Wallner and Harper went unfinished against Jacob Lorino and Oliver Andersson at No. 2, but were leading 5-2 when the doubles point was clinched.
Singles went quickly for the Vols as Wiedenmann was the first player off the court with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Gold on court two. Prata finished just behind his teammate on court one as he took down Damberg in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Freshman Finn Stodder clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court five over Sanders.
Rogers on court two was leading 6-1, 5-2 over Andersson when the match finished, but did not get the chance to close it out. Likewise, Wallner went unfinished against Lorino at No. 4, but was up 6-2, 4-0.
On court six, sophomore Teddy McEntee made his Tennessee debut, playing against Nogueira. McEntee dropped the first set 3-6, but was knotted at 1-1 in the second went UT clinched the match.

Tennessee hits the road this coming weekend as the Vols travel to Columbia, S.C. to face off with the Gamecocks on Friday night before going to Gainesville, Fla., for a date with the Gators on Sunday.
