Cook Named To U.S. U-19 Women’s National Team Roster For La Manga Tournament
February 26, 2020 | Soccer
CHICAGO -- Tennessee midfielder Isabella Cook has been selected to the U.S. Under-19 Women's National Team roster, as the team travels to La Manga, Spain next week to play three international matches in a 12-team friendly tournament.
The USA will face the U-19 sides from England (March 4), Netherlands (March 6) and Sweden (March 8) in what will be the first matches of the year for this age group. The friendly competition will feature 12 countries playing three games each. In addition to the USA and its three opponents, Denmark, Poland, Germany, France, Norway, Italy, Iceland and Switzerland will also participate.
An Elmhurst, Illinois, native, Cook played in all 18 matches with 13 starts during her freshman campaign on Rocky Top last fall. She ranked second on the team with eight points, recording three goals and two assists as an attacking midfielder. Cook was named SEC Freshman of the Week on October 7 following a three-point effort against SEC East rival Kentucky, in which she scored the match-winner and later added an assist to help UT secure a 2-0 victory.
Prior to Tennessee, Cook had extensive experience on the U.S. youth national circuit — competing at the U-18, U-19 and U-20 levels. She scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory against China at the U-20 Nike Friendlies in December 2018 and participated in the U-19 WNT training camp in the Netherlands in November 2018.
Tennessee goalkeeper Lindsey Romig was also invited to represent the U.S. in La Manga next week, but is unable to attend the tournament due to offseason surgery.
