Give Him Six: VFL Kamara Ties NFL Record on Christmas Day
December 26, 2020 | Football
NEW ORLEANS – VFL Alvin Kamara put on a show on Christmas Day, leading the New Orleans Saints to a fourth-straight NFC South title and tying NFL records in the process.
Kamara tied a 91-year-old NFL record with six rushing touchdowns in a 52-33 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. The feat matched Ernie Nevers, who had six for the Chicago Cardinals in 1929. Kamara also became just the third player in NFL history to tally six total touchdowns in a game, joining Nevers, Dub Jones of the Cleveland Browns in 1951 and Gale Sayers of the Chicago Bears in 1965.
Kamara, who finished with a career-best 155 rushing yards, was named to a fourth-consecutive NFL Pro Bowl earlier this week. He shattered four Saints records on Christmas Day, including single-season rushing touchdowns (16), single-season total touchdowns (21), single-game rushing scores (six) and single-game total touchdowns (6). For the season, he has tallied a career-high 932 rushing yards and 1,688 yards from scrimmage this season.
Kamara now has 59 touchdowns in his career, the third-most by a player in his first four seasons in NFL history, trailing only Hall of Famers Terrell Davis (61) and LaDainian Tomlinson (60).
Kamara played two seasons for the Volunteers, logging 1,294 rushing yards and 683 receiving yards from 2015-16. He finished with 23 total touchdowns – 16 rushing and seven receiving.
