SEC Announces Spring Volleyball Schedule
December 21, 2020 | Volleyball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On Monday the Southeastern Conference announced the spring volleyball schedule for the 2020-21 season.
The league's 13 teams began the year in October with an eight-match, conference-only schedule against four opponents over six weeks. In the spring, teams will compete against eight opponents over nine weeks. Schools will play two matches against the same team in the same week, on back-to-back days.
Much like the fall slate, the SEC has a built in makeup week at the end of the season.
"We are looking forward to welcoming the team back in early January and are grateful for another opportunity to compete," head coach Eve Rackham Watt said. "This will be unlike any spring that our players or staff have experienced and I feel confident about our ability to adapt."
Competition for the Big Orange begins on the road Feb. 6-7 at Texas A&M. The Aggies and Lady Vols finished the fall tied for sixth in the conference with identical 4-4 records.
The following weekend, UT welcomes No. 8 Missouri to Knoxville for the home opening series beginning Feb. 12.
The remaining home schedule includes matches versus No. 7 Florida (Feb. 25-26), followed by a visit from Mississippi State (March 5-6). The Lady Vols close out the home slate and spring schedule against LSU on March 24 and 25.
Tennessee hits the road to face Ole Miss Feb. 18 and 19 before UT's four match homestand against Florida and Mississippi State. The road schedule sees the Lady Vols visit Arkansas for two matches on March 13 and 14 before swinging through Tuscaloosa for a pair of matches versus Alabama March 19 and 20.
Start times and television information will be announced at a later date.
"We are excited to have a chance to finish the SEC season," Rackham Watt said. "So many people have worked incredibly hard to ensure we can crown a true conference champion in April. I know our team is ready to get started."
The Lady Vols closed out the fall winning four of their last six matches, which included back-to-back sweeps of Auburn in the final two matches of the semester. Junior Lily Felts led the team in kills, totaling 108 with an average of 3.72 kills per set. The Knoxville native ended the fall with double-digit kills in six consecutive matches.
Juniors Danielle Mahaffey and Ava Bell added 72 and 66 kills, respectively, while freshman Jasmine Brooks scored 64 over the eight-match fall slate. Setter Natalie Hayward kept the Lady Vols in rhythm offensively, notching 253 assists with an average of 8.72 assists per set in the fall.
