Danielle Mahaffey Named CFP and Dr Pepper Go Teach Scholarship Award Winner
December 19, 2020 | Volleyball
Tennessee volleyball's Danielle Mahaffey has been announced as a recipient of a $2,500 scholarship from the College Football Playoff Foundation's Extra Yard for Teachers and Dr Pepper.
Mahaffey is one of 14 student-athletes from the Southeastern Conference to be awarded a scholarship through the Go Teach initiative.
"I am very excited and very grateful to receive this scholarship," Mahaffey said. "It will help me pursue my master's in teaching. I hope to work with middle school students after earning my degree, teaching math."
The Go Teach Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway program gives Dr Pepper's existing conference partners the opportunity to recognize student-athletes who will go on to be leaders in the classroom. The SEC will distribute the funds directly to the institution the athlete is enrolled.
Mahaffey, a junior majoring in mathematics, will receive the $2,500 tuition support once her athletic eligibility is finished.
During the fall volleyball season, Mahaffey ranked second on the team in kills with 72, scored five service aces, notched 46 digs and totaled 14 blocks. The Cincinnati native and the Lady Vols return to the court in the spring to conclude their 2020-21 season.
