Julie Wittekind to Join Lady Vols in January
December 01, 2020 | Volleyball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee volleyball signee Julie Wittekind is set to join the volleyball program in January 2021, head coach Eve Rackham Watt announced Tuesday.
The Cincinnati native is a part of Tennessee's 2021 signing class.
"We are so excited to welcome Julie to Rocky Top," Rackham Watt said. "She will enroll this January and get a head start on training this spring. Julie brings great ball control and exciting defense, which will add to the depth of our backrow. She is a player who loves to train, is a great teammate and someone our staff has a lot of belief in. I am looking forward to watching Julie develop in our system."
Wittekind played for Turpin High School and was named to the 2020 OHSVCA All-District first-team, AVCA All-Region team, ECC All-Conference first-team and earned All-State honorable mention. She also earned Turpin High School MVP and was named Turpin Scholar Athlete.
The DS/L finished her high school career with 841 career digs.
"I remember thinking this is it!" Wittekind said. "I loved the campus, the incredible education I would be receiving and the history of UT Athletics. I believe Eve and the coaching staff will take Tennessee volleyball to great places."
Wittekind played club volleyball for NKYVC, the same club program that produced current Lady Vol Danielle Mahaffey. While with NKYVC, Wittekind helped led her team to a fifth-place finish at open nationals.
Wittekind will be able to practice with the Lady Vols this spring, but will not be eligible to compete in Tennessee's spring matches.
A complete rundown of Tennessee's 2021 signing class will be coming soon.
