Bardwell Claims Title Share, Lady Vols Finish Second at Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate

ATHENS, Ga. – The Tennessee women's golf team closed out its final tournament of 2020-21 fall season on Sunday with an ode to Knoxville's 865 area code, placing second (+1, 865), as Auburn (E, 864) took the team title at the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic in Athens.
"We got off to a really good start today and kept it going," head coach Judi Pavon said. "It was great for Vanessa to step up today after struggling the last two days. And for Mikayla to tie for the win is and awesome end to a great fall."
The Lady Vols' excellent day saw them card the lowest team score of the day, with a four-player score of 5-under, 283.
Junior Mikayla Bardwell (-3, 213) had a stellar afternoon, tying for the tournament's individual crown with Megan Schofill of Auburn and Hannah Levi of Mississippi State. Bardwell finished the weekend on a high note, with birdies on the final two holes of the day to shoot a final round score of 2-under, 70. The victory is the first collegiate victory of Bardwell's Tennessee career.
Graduate student Micheala Williams (-1, 215) battled through an up-and-down round to shoot a 2-under par score of 70, while finishing in a tie for fourth place.
Sophomore Nicole Whiston (+3, 219) finished in a tie for 13th, standing as the third Lady Vol in with a top-15 finish over the weekend.
"We are so thankful that we got to play this fall—all the coaches have been talking about it," Pavon said. "The SEC and our administration really committed to making it happen and it was great for the players."
Vanessa Gilly (-4, 68) had her best round of the tournament on Sunday, as she matched her three birdies to close the front nine with three additional birdies in the back half of the course, while carding just two bogeys all day.
Redshirt sophomore Shelby Liford rounded out Tennessee's lineup at +11, 227, in a tie for 45th.
