Lady Vols Dominate Back Nine, Sit in Tie for Fourth Following Day Two of Liz Murphey Collegiatge

ATHENS, Ga. – Solid back nines from graduate student Micheala Williams and sophomore Nicole Whiston helped the Tennessee women's golf team recover from a rough front side to sit in a tie for fourth at 6-over, 582, after the second round of the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic.
"The front nine is really tough, but we did get off to a bad start," head coach Judi Pavon said. "They knew the easier holes would be later in the day and they did a great job of not getting upset and staying focused and then finished their rounds really well. I'm happy for Nicole having a really good round and Micheala and Shelby came through for us as well."
Whiston led the way for the Lady Vols on Saturday, carding a 2-under par round of 70. After bogeying two of her first three holes, the 2020 All-SEC honoree went bogey free the rest of the day, while rolling in four birdies. Whiston sits at even-par, in a tie for 10th heading into the tournament's final day.
Williams backed up Whiston's round with an even-par score of 72. After a rough front nine, that saw her shoot a 3-over score of 38, the Athens, Alabama native posted a bogey-free 3-under score of 34, placing her in a tie for 15th at +1 for the tournament.
Junior Mikayla Bardwell was the third Lady Vol to take advantage of the easier back nine. After double bogeying two of her first three holes, Bardwell knocked in three birdies and just a single bogey on the back side, shooting a 2-over par score of 74. She is currently the low Lady Vol through two rounds, sitting in a tie for fourth at -1, 143.
Redshirt sophomore Shelby Liford rounded out the UT scoring lineup, by matching Bardwell's score of 2-over par (74). Liford is in a tie for 33rd with a two-day score of +6, 150.
