Women's Golf Central: Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic
November 05, 2020 | Women's Golf
ATHENS, Ga. – Following a much more consistent showing down in Starkville, the Tennessee women's golf team will hit the road for the final time this Fall, when it takes part the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic hosted by Georgia in Athens.
UT will be joined by 10 conference opponents with the hosts Georgia fielding two five-player squads, while Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi State. Vanderbilt and Texas A&M will each put together one single team of five players along with the Big Orange.
The Liz Murphey will be played in the Fall portion of the season for the first time, after the event was canceled in March due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
This weekend will also be the Lady Vols first trip to Athens, since May of 2017 when they competed in the NCAA Regionals.
Lady Vol's Lineup
Mikayla Bardwell
Bardwell is coming off her best career finish in any collegiate tournament when she finished in a tie for third place at The Ally at Old Waverly with a three-day score of 6-under, 210.
The Lewisville, Texas native's highlight of the week came during the tournament's second round, when she fired home a program record tying score of 64 (-8), rolling in nine birdies and carding just a single bogey on the day.
Vanessa Gilly
Gilly will look to continue her streak of consistent play to begin her collegiate career. Following a T-7 finish at The Ally, Gilly will hope to extend her streak of rounds in the 70s or better, while holding a team-best stroke average of 73.83 heading into this week.
Micheala Williams
The fifth-year senior carded her first round of par or better and her first top-30 finish of the 2020-21 season at The Ally with a round one score of 2-under (70) and a 54-hole total of 219 (+3) to finish in a tie for 29th.
Williams will look to build off of that performance when she returns to the University of Georgia Golf Course for the first time since her freshman year.
Nicole Whiston
After a difficult week in Starkville, the 2020 second team All-SEC honoree will look to bounce back after finishing in a tie for 64th with a three-day score of +16 (232) at The Ally.

This will be Liford's second collegiate tournament in three years on Rocky Top and will look to build off of a successful week in qualifying that pushed her into the official Lady Vol lineup for the first time in her career.
