Dipasupil Named To TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week
November 03, 2020 | Soccer
CULVER CITY, Calif. — Tennessee midfielder Claudia Dipasupil has been selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's Team of the Week, the publication announced Tuesday morning. The sophomore from Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, was involved with both goals in the Vols' 2-1 victory at Florida last Friday, scoring the match's opening tally and assisting the eventual game-winner.
"A well-deserved honor for Claudia," head coach Brian Pensky said. "She's developed nicely this fall, and has figured prominently in our positive results, with her timely assists and/or goals."
Dipasupil's first score of the 2020 campaign came on a left-footed strike from 25 yards, chipping the ball over the keeper's head into the top shelf to give Tennessee a 1-0 advantage over Florida in the first half. The goal was featured the following morning on SportsCenter, earning the No. 1 spot on the show's "Goal of the Night" segment.
Midway through the second half at Florida, Dipasupil notched her SEC-leading fourth assist of the season on a corner kick service to Jaida Thomas' game-winning header.
Dipasupil's efforts helped the Vols secure their third-straight victory over the Gators, tying the longest streak for Tennessee in series history. It also marked the first time UT has earned back-to-back wins in Gainesville since notching consecutive victories at Florida in 2004 and 2006.
This is the second time this season that a Tennessee Vol has been named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week. Senior center back Wrenne French received a nod on September 29 after helping UT secure a 1-0 shutout victory over in-state rival No. 10 Vanderbilt.
Tennessee will conclude its fall season with an SEC East division championship on the line Friday night against top-10 nationally ranked South Carolina. The winner of Friday's contest will clinch a division title and top-2 seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament. Kickoff between the Vols and Gamecocks is set for 6 p.m. at Regal Soccer Stadium.
