November 10, 2020 | Men's Golf
VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. – The Tennessee men's golf team completed its final tournament of the fall Tuesday, finishing in fourth place at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.
The Vols shot 2-under for the day Tuesday, bringing their three-round score to 11-under 829.
With the fourth-place finish, Tennessee closed out a fall in which it competed strictly in tournament composed of all 14 SEC schools with a 31-7-1 record – good for the second-best mark in the conference.
The Vols finished inside the top four as a team of all three tournaments this fall.
"I think we have left the last two weeks feeling like we left a lot out there and were still able to finish in the top four of the best golf conference in the country," head coach Brennan Webb said. "We had a great fall and I think we took another step in the right direction towards where we eventually want to be as a program.
"I know finishing with the second-best record in the conference will be a source of motivation for our guys and we will keep working hard to improve."
Tennessee maintained three golfers inside the top 20 on the individual leaderboard for the third consecutive round, as Hunter Wolcott, Rhys Nevin and Jake Hall all recorded top-20 finishes.
Wolcott finished tied for 10th place, shooting 5-under for the week at Old Overton Club. All three of Wolcott's rounds were par or better, bringing his fall tally to six in that category.
It marks Wolcott's eighth career top-10 finish and second this fall after he tied for second place overall at the Blessings Collegiate last month.
Finishing tied for 12th place, Nevin recorded his 21st career top-20 finish – a mark that leads the team. Nevin shot 4-under 206 overall and like Wolcott, carded three rounds of par or better. Nevin's 3-under 67 on Tuesday was Tennessee's best of the day.
In his first tournament as a member of Tennessee's lineup, Hall tied for 16th place. His previous highest collegiate career finish competing as an individual was 20th place.
Hall shot under par for the tournament as a whole, carding a 2-under 208.
Coming in tied for 44th place was Spencer Cross, who shot 6-over 215. All three of Cross' rounds for the tournament as a whole counted, bringing his fall total to seven of nine rounds counted.
Bryce Lewis shot Tennessee's second-best round of the day Tuesday, carding a 2-under 68. He shot 7-over 217 for the tournament overall.
