Vols Fall At No. 8 Georgia, 1-0

ATHENS, Ga. -- Despite several close chances for Tennessee in the final minutes of regulation, the Vols could not find the equalizer as UT came up short at No. 8 Georgia 1-0 Friday night. With the result, Tennessee drops to 1-2 on the season.

Junior midfielder Abby Boyan scored the game-winner for the Bulldogs in the 30th minute with a straight-on strike from 15 yards out. Receiving a pop-up clearance at the top of the 18-yard box, Boyan took a touch and fired into the back of the net for her second match-winner on the year.

Tennessee had seven shots and three corner kicks in the second half, including three shots and two corners in the final six minutes. UT's closest chance of the night came in the 62nd minute, when Tara Katz's 10-yard attempt ricocheted off the near post.

Reigning SEC Freshman of the Week Jaida Thomas led the Vols with three shots on the night, as Tennessee outshot Georgia 12-11 for the match. Wrenne French, Mackenzie George and Lawson Renie tied for second on the team with two shots each.

Tennessee returns home next Friday, October 9, to host the Missouri Tigers in the Vols' third-straight SEC East matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Regal Soccer Stadium, and the match will be televised on SEC Network.
