August 12, 2019 | Soccer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 10 Tennessee opened its preseason exhibition schedule with a 4-0 romp over the Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds Monday night at Regal Soccer Stadium. Three of UT's four scores came from the Vols' highly touted freshman class.
Following 21 scoreless minutes of action, rookie midfielder Isabella Cook put Tennessee on the board with a 20-yard dribbler into the lower right corner of the net off a service from classmate Claudia Dipasupil. Senior forward Salera Jordan closed the opening frame with a great individual effort, skating past a Loyola defender and burying a shot into the upper right corner with 20 seconds left in the half.
Dipasupil tallied her first college goal early in the second half, heading a ball into the back of the net off an assist from Amy Thompson in the 47th minute. Tennessee held a 3-0 edge until Colleen McIlvenna broke through in the 82nd minute for her first goal in the Orange and White.
Rookie goalkeeper Lindsey Romig played 90 minutes between the posts and recorded a solo shutout, facing just one shot on frame for the entire match. Tennessee outshot Loyola-Maryland 11-3 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Vols return to action Saturday, Aug. 17 with an intersquad scrimmage at Regal Soccer Stadium. Fans are invited to meet and greet the team beginning at 5 p.m., followed by an on-field kids' clinic with select players and coaches. The Orange & White match is set to kick off at 7 p.m.
The Vols open their regular season Thursday, Aug. 22, hosting Fordham in a non-conference bout at 7 p.m.
