KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee women's tennis coach Alison Ojeda announced Thursday that UT men's tennis alum Jarryd Chaplin has joined the women's program as an assistant coach.
"Jarryd is an excellent coach and someone who will make an immediate impact on our program," Ojeda said. "Every time I have coached against him, I have come away impressed with his on-court coaching style. He truly understands the game and is able to adjust during the match. In spending time with him, you can feel his passion and energy for not just tennis but for the University of Tennessee."
Chaplin comes to Rocky Top from Vanderbilt, where he spent the past two years – last season as an assistant with the women's program and the 2017-18 campaign as a volunteer assistant on the men's side.
"I am incredibly grateful to Coach Ojeda and the University of Tennessee Athletics Department for giving me this opportunity to return to a place that holds some of my fondest memories on and off the tennis court," Chaplin said. "I look forward to working alongside Coach Ojeda and continuing the Lady Vols' rise toward the top of the SEC and the nation."
As a player, the Sydney, Australia, native competed for the Vols from 2011-14.
Over the course of four seasons in Knoxville, Chaplin compiled a 74-44 doubles record and 64-55 singles record, earning second-team All-SEC honors in 2013.
Chaplin was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll for three straight seasons from 2012-14.
In his professional career on tour, Chaplin achieved an ATP doubles career-high ranking of No. 155.
