SUMMER UPDATE: Walts Reaches Semfinals of Indiana Women's Match Play

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Over the summer months, seven members of the Tennessee women's golf program will play in 13 different tournaments. This past week, the Lady Vols took part in three different events across the country including a qualifier for the US Women's Amateur in Roswell, Ga. Incoming freshman Nicole Whiston qualified for the US Women's Amateur after tying for second in the field. Rising sophomore Hadley Walts advanced to the semifinals of the Indiana Women's Match Play Championship in Indianapolis, Ind.

Below is a complete look at where the Lady Vols will be playing this summer, with updates coming at the conclusion of each event.

Tennessee Women's Amateur (June 11-13)

Location: Chattanooga, Tenn. | Black Creek Club
Competitors: Mariah Smith, Malia Stovall, Shelby Liford and Waverly Whiston

Rising sophomore Malia Stovall led the four Lady Vols who competed in the 87th Tennessee Women's Amateur, finishing tied for second and just one stroke off of the lead. Stovall was in contention for the title all week long as after round one she was tied for third at 1-under-par and after round two she was tied for second at 3-under-par. Playing in the final group on Thursday, she at one point held a 1-stroke lead at 5-under for the tournament before tying for the runner-up spot.

All four players finished in the top 15 on the leaderboard as rising junior Mariah Smith (+5) finished 10th, rising junior Waverly Whiston (+6) tied for 11th and Shelby Liford (+9) tied for 13th.

British Women's Amateur (June 11-15)

Location: Newcastle, UK | Royal County Down
Competitor: Micheala Williams

Williams advanced to the round of 32 of match play in the event where she squared off against Chloe Goadby of Scotland. Williams was eliminated by Goadby 3&2. En route to the match play competition, the Athens, Ala. native finished tied for 12th in the stroke play portion of the tournament. In the opening round, Williams was tied for third after firing a round of 71 (-2) before carding a second round 77 (+4) to complete stroke play at 2-over.

Indiana Women's Amateur (June 26-28)

Location: Kokomo, Ind. | Kokomo Country Club
Competitors: Hadley Walts

In her first event of the summer slate, rising sophomore Hadley Walts placed inside of the top 10 at the Indiana Women's Amateur. The Evansville, Ind. native tied for ninth in the competition, carding scores of 72 and 74 over the final two rounds to help her move up the leaderboard.

U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier (July 1)

Location: Franklin, Tenn. | Westhaven Golf Club
Competitors: Mariah Smith, Micheala Williams, Malia Stovall

Malia Stovall tied for second at the Franklin, Tenn. qualifier after firing a round after firing a round of 68 (-4) at Westhaven Golf Club. The rising sophomore was one of five players in 54 player field to advance to the US Women's Amateur which will be played at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss. in August.

Micheala Williams and Mariah Stovall both narrowly missed the cut, turning in rounds of 74 (+2) and 75 (+3), respectively.

U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier (July 1)

Location: Southlake, Texas | Timarron Country Club
Competitors: Mikayla Bardwell, Shelby Liford

Mikayla Bardwell and Shelby Liford both finished in the middle of the pack in the Southlake, Texas qualifier, placing 43rd and 54th at Timarron Country Club.

U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier (July 2)

Location: Bermuda Run, N.C. | Bermuda Run Country Club
Competitor: Hadley Walts

In her second tournament of the week, Hadley Walts finished just a few strokes back of the cutline at the Bermuda Run, N.C. qualifier at Bermuda Run Country Club. The rising sophomore turned in a round of 76 (+4), just four strokes back of the cutline.

U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier (July 8)

Location: Roswell, Ga. | Brookfield Country Club
Competitors: Waverly Whiston, Nicole Whiston

Incoming freshman Nicole Whiston became the second Lady Vol to qualify for the US Women's Amateur this summer joining rising sophomore Malia Stovall, who qualified a week prior. Whiston carded a round of 68 (-4) to tie for second in the competition and was two strokes clear of the cutline. Waverly finished in the middle of the pack in the Georgia qualifier.

Texas Women's Open (July 7-9)

Location: Garland, Texas | Firewheel Golf Park
Competitor: Mikayla Bardwell, Shelby Liford

Shelby Liford grabbed a a top-25 finish in her second tournament in Texas in as many weeks. Liford moved up four spots in the final round to place 24th on the leaderboard. Mikayla Bardwell tied for 35th on the leaderboard after also making a third round surge up the leaderboard.

Indiana Women's Match Play (July 10-12)

Location: Indianapolis, Ind. | Old Oakland Golf Club
Competitor: Hadley Walts

After earning the No. 4 seed in stroke play, Walts cruised in the round of 16 of match play. She defeated Kristen Hobbs 6&5, advancing to the quarterfinals on the 13th hole. In the quarterfinals, Walts moved past Danbi Kim 3&2 to advance to the semifinals where she narrowly fell to Julia Potter-Bobb.

North & South (July 15-19)

Location: Pinehurst, N.C. | Pinehurst No. 2

Texas Women's Amateur (July 16-19)

Location: Dallas, Texas | Bent Tree Country Club
Competitor: Mikayla Bardwell

Tennessee Women's Open (July 25-27)

Location: Crossville, Tenn. | Stonehenge Golf Club
