Lady Vols Come From Behind to Defeat French Junior National Team

Sophomore Ava Bell helped pace Tennessee with six of the team's 16 aces in the match
GIGNAC, France – After traveling from Nice to Gignac, the University of Tennessee volleyball team played the French Junior National Team in the fourth match of the European Tour.
After trailing 2-0 sets, Tennessee battled back to earn a five-set win Tuesday night in front of a soldout French crowd. The Lady Vols helped change the momentum of the game at the service line, tallying 12 of its 16 aces in the final three frames.
Sophomore Ava Bell led the way from the service line, notching six aces in the match with at least one coming in every set. Redshirt sophomore Brooklynne Villano recorded three aces in the match with every one coming in the final three frames.
UT fought off two match points in the third set before forcing the set to go extra points. Tennessee went on to take its first set of the match 28-26 in the third.
The middle blocking tandem of senior Alyssa Andreno and junior Addisyn Rowe helped the Lady Vol offense down the stretch as they combined for 17 kills in the final three sets.
Rowe and Andreno produced six kills on six swings in the fourth set as Tennessee was able to cruise to a 25-16 set win. Andreno finished the match with a team-high 14 kills in the win over the French Junior National Team.
Senior Tessa Grubbs, who finished with 11 kills on the night, added four kills in the set to push the match to a decisive fifth set. Tennessee would lead nearly the entire way as aces from Andreno, Bell and Villano paced UT to a match-clinching 15-10 set win in the fifth.
This is the second win in a row for the Lady Vols on the European Tour after defeating Serteco Volley School in all five sets on Saturday.
The Lady Vols are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Paris, France to play St. Cloud (Paris) in the penultimate match of the tour.
