Tennessee Places Sixth In Big 12 Championship

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- Tennessee accumulated 16 team points to place sixth in the Big 12 Conference Championship on Sunday at Melton Hill Lake.Â
Three events are scored to determine the automatic qualifier from the Big 12 Conference. The most points are awarded for results in the 1V8+ followed by the 2V8+ and the 1V4+. Texas won the championship, finishing first in all three scored finals and accumulating 42 team points. Alabama took second with 31 points followed by Oklahoma with 30 points, Kansas State with 23, Kansas with 20, Tennessee with 16, and West Virginia with 6. Texas advances to the NCAA Championship as the Big 12 automatic qualifier.
Tennessee senior Pari Baker was named to the Big 12 All-Conference Rowing Team.Â
Freshman Madelyn Walsh guided the Vols' 1V8 to a fifth-place finish, besting Kansas State and West Virginia with a time of 6:46.807. The crew was narrowly edged out by Kansas who finished just over six tenths of a second ahead of them at 6:46.154. Texas won the race with a time of 6:25.872.Â
Tennessee took sixth in the 2V8, making it down the course in 7:01.132. Texas won the race with a time of 6:38.439, followed by Kansas State, Alabama, Oklahoma and Kansas.
In the 1V4 the Lady Vols beat Kansas and West Virginia down the course to finish fifth with a time of  7:45.776. Texas posted a time of 7:31.335 to win the race.
Tennessee's 2V4 finished fifth, outpacing Kansas State and West Virginia with a time of 7:57.777. Texas placed first ahead of Oklahoma, Alabama and Kansas with a time of 7:28.132.
The 3V8 recorded the highest finish of the day for a Tennessee boat, holding off Kansas, Kansas State and West Virginia to finish fourth with a time of 7:01.625. Texas finished first at 6:42.108.
